Week 5 Polls are Out, and Villanova is In

-USA Today Images Archives

The last time Villanova was ranked in the top 25, James Bell and JayVaughn Pinkston were the new kids on the block as freshmen waiting for their turn. Ryan Arcidiacono was a junior in high school helping his team prepare for the state playoffs and the world didn’t know who he was just yet. Darrun Hilliard was finishing off his senior year in high school and gearing up for the Main Line. The Wildcats lost to former Big East rival Pittsburgh in the season finale, ending the regular season with four straight losses. March 5, 2011 was the last time Villanova entered a game in the Top 25. It’s safe to say, it has been a while. A strong showing at the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament, and knocking off ranked Kansas and Iowa has gone well for the Wildcats. Now they’re back in, ranked at #14 for the AP Poll and #19 in the Coaches’ Poll.

Michigan State remains at the top. Arizona moves into the two slot after the Kansas loss. Former Big East rival Syracuse moves into the top 5 at #4. As for the rest of the Big East? Creighton and Marquette who were at the tail end of the Top 25 last week, are now out. Villanova stands alone as the only Top 25 team remaining from the Big East.
