Weekly Polls & Bracketology: Conference Championship Week

The Wildcats close out the regular season with 28 wins, the most in program history. They took care of business by beating Xavier on the road to clinch the Big East outright regular season title and then Georgetown at the Wells Fargo Center. As for other teams in the Top 10, it was not a good week for them. Arizona, Duke, Kansas, Virginia, and Syracuse all suffered a loss last week, and as a result they fell in the polls. This was a good thing for the Wildcats, who move up to #3 in both the AP and Coaches’ Polls. As for the other ranked Big East team, Creighton, they fall to #14 after losing to Georgetown last week.

As for bracketology, ESPN has finally given Villanova credit and has joined the bandwagon of other people listing them as a 1-seed in the NCAA Tournament. We have played well and there was no real reason as to why Duke or Kansas was sitting at a 1-seed despite losing. As for the other Big East teams, Joe Lunardi has Creighton as a 3-seed and Xavier hovering around a 11-seed. If Villanova wins the conference tournament, they are definitely a lock for the 1-seed.
