A National Champion and All-American Honors for Nova Track

-Runner’s World

Another quick break, to give some overdue praise…

As Villanova was gearing up for St. Patrick’s Day and Selection Sunday celebrations, big things were happening on the other side of the country. The Indoor Track National Championships took place at Albuquerque, New Mexico. Emily Lipari found herself coming down the homestretch with four runners ahead of her. They never truly separated themselves from the rest of the crowd. Lipari never fell further than sixth at any point during the race of ten finalists. In the final leg of the race, she powered her way past everyone in her way to a first place finish with a time of 4:38.82 in the mile race. It was Lipari’s first career individual NCAA title. She was a part of the National Champion Distance Medley Relay team during her freshman year. Lipari’s title is the fourth individual title ever won by a woman at Villanova. The previous three were won by Olympians Vicki Huber and two by Carmen Douma, pretty good company.
