Watch For It Wednesday: Thanksgiving!

happy turkey day

This week is going to be relatively quiet after the craziness that has ensued these past few days…

Black Friday Tourney:

The women’s basketball team is going to have a short Thanksgiving break. As shoppers get up early to beat the crowds in the malls, they will be heading down south to Naples, Florida, for the Gulf Coast Showcase. Villanova will be joined by seven other schools: Arizona State, UConn, Charleston, Minnesota, Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, and Green Bay. The Wildcats will take on Arizona State this Friday at 2:30 p.m. The Sun Devils are currently 3-0 and will look to build upon that this weekend. On Saturday, depending on what happens, Villanova will play either Georgia Tech or Green Bay. The Wildcats picked up their first win last week against Cal State Fullerton after losing a pair of close games.

The Grind Continues:

The Legends Classic champions will have a few days to celebrate their big win before they have to resume the regular season. The Wildcats will travel back to Philadelphia for a Wells Fargo Center matchup against Delaware. I have no clue why this game is not in the Pavilion. These two teams played on campus last year and it was perfectly okay. The Delaware Blue Hens have been struggling so far this season. They are currently 0-4 going into Sunday’s game. Stanford gave them an 84-47 beat down last night. Villanova shouldn’t have a problem, but you never want to take an opponent too lightly.

James Madison-Liberty Football Game:

While this game doesn’t directly involve Villanova, it will in another week. The winner of this game will play Villanova in the playoffs. James Madison has a chance for a rematch with the Wildcats after losing 49-31. Vad Lee has been great in the second half of the season. The dual-threat quarterback has compiled over 4,000 yards of total offense. He boasts a touchdown to interception ratio of 29-6 and added eight touchdowns on the ground. For Liberty, they have a solid balanced attack with the one-two punch of D.J. Abnar and Josh Woodrum. Abnar has rushed for 1,166 yards and 13 touchdowns off of 254 carries. Woodrum is another dual-threat quarterback who may not be as good of a passer as Lee, but he gets the job done. Liberty pulled off a shocking upset of Coastal Carolina on the road to cap off the season.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!
