Christmas break is slowly coming to a close. As students enjoy the last few days before having to return to the pressures of exams, papers, and deadlines, here are some of the things they can look forward to making that transition a little better:
Returning Home For The First Time in 2015:
The Villanova Wildcats will return home after a tough road trip that included a loss in overtime against the Seton Hall Pirates and a solid bounce back effort versus the St. John’s Red Storm last night. The Wildcats will take on the DePaul Blue Demons this Saturday at 4 p.m. DePaul is currently 8-7 and is off to a great start in Big East conference play. They won their first two games against Marquette and Xavier, and will look to continue that success against Villanova. The Blue Demons are led by their top scorer Myke Henry and last season’s Big East Rookie of the Year, Billy Garrett Jr. They are looking to improve upon last year’s disappointing last place finish in the Big East. So far, they are off to a good start. Before heading to Villanova, the Blue Demons will make a quick stop at Creighton tonight.
The women’s basketball team is currently riding a four-game winning streak, including an overtime win over preseason favorite DePaul and a dominating performance against Marquette. They will now have a busy weekend ahead of them. The Wildcats will hit the road for a Friday night game at Creighton. The Bluejays had a tough out of conference schedule, losing three games to ranked top 25 opponents. They currently sit at 8-7, after suffering back-to-back road losses to Xavier and Georgetown. However, the Bluejays play pretty well at home, boasting a 5-1 record against unranked opponents when defending their court. After taking on Creighton, the Wildcats will return home for a game against a struggling Georgetown team. The Hoyas are 3-12 and had a ten-game losing streak at one point in the season. They beat Marquette 83-76 to shake off the slump, before taking a 20-point loss to DePaul.
Pavilion Pool Party:
This Saturday, the men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams are hosting NC State for a head-to-head meet at Villanova’s Pavilion. This will be their first taste of action for either squad since the women’s team competed in the 2014 AT&T Winter National Championships in early December. The meet will begin at 10 a.m. As for the men’s team, they won’t have much time to rest up after Saturday’s meet. They will have another head-to-head meet with the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Sunday at 12 p.m.
