Now that we are in the New Year and almost halfway through the season, we’ll be taking a look at the weekly polls and rankings. In a few weeks, it’ll be accompanied by some bracketology.
Losses to Duke, Wisconsin, and Louisville caused quite a stir within the top 10. After a solid week, the Villanova Wildcats are moving up the polls. Wins over then-ranked #24 St. John’s and DePaul improved their record to 15-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play. The AP and Coaches’ Polls were released earlier today. Villanova is moving up from #8 to #5 in both polls. This new ranking is the highest that the Wildcats have reached this season.
As for the rest of the Big East, Seton Hall is the only other ranked team according to the AP Polls. The Pirates fall down a few spots after taking a loss to Xavier. They are now seated at #21, down from last week’s ranking of #19. St. John’s was ranked at #24, before losing to Villanova. Since then, they are now out of the Top 25.
