The weekly polls were released earlier today. Villanova is still in the top ten, but fell to #7 in both the AP and Coaches’ Polls.
The Wildcats took a hit last Tuesday night, when they suffered a loss to rival Georgetown. Villanova was outplayed on both ends of the court and it showed on the scoreboard, losing 78-58. Fast forward to last night, when the Wildcats played the Creighton Bluejays. Not only was Villanova looking to bounce back, but also looking for their first Big East win over Creighton. Villanova accomplished both. A determined Wildcats turned the tables on the young Bluejays, winning in convincing fashion. Villanova won comfortably, 71-50.
As for the rest of the Big East, Georgetown and Butler have found their way back into the rankings. The Hoyas move up to #21 in the AP Poll and #22 in the Coaches’ Poll after taking down Villanova and Marquette. The Bulldogs are now at #25 in the AP Poll, but coaches aren’t quite convinced. The last slot was given to Arkansas instead. Providence remains in limbo, winning their only game of the week against Xavier in overtime. The Friars will now be joined by the Seton Hall Pirates, who fall out of the polls after extending their losing streak to three games.
