We all have certainly noticed the rise of Villanova’s Daniel Ochefu. The junior center has made this season his breakout party.

He’s always been known for his defensive prowess, but his offensive abilities are catching up. Ochefu has had wonderful performances such as the 19 point, 24 rebound game at Seton Hall on January 3rd. He also finished with a 21 point, 10 rebound performance against Big Five rival Penn on January 17th. Not too long ago, he shot a perfect 7-for-7 en route to a 19 point and 9 rebound game against Providence.

Now, he is grabbing the attention of the college basketball world. The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced the list of 15 candidates. Ochefu was named to the watch list for the inaugural Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award.

The award is named after Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, a hall of famer at the collegiate and professional levels. The committee will narrow the list down to five candidates in March. Daniel Ochefu is amongst some pretty good company.
