Men’s Basketball Dominates Big 5 Awards



Earlier today, the Philadelphia Big 5 announced their yearly award winners. The Wildcats will be taking home multiple awards and honors.

Darrun Hilliard is this year’s Big 5 Player of the Year. The senior guard had a thrilling 27-point last stand in the loss to N.C. State. He averaged 14.3 points per game and shot 44.0% overall on the floor. Hilliard finishes his career with 1,511 points.

Once again, Jay Wright is named Big 5 Coach of the Year. The Wildcats swept the Big 5 once again to defend their crown. They finished the year as Big East regular season and tournament champions.

Freshman Phil Booth is the Big 5 Rookie of the Year. Booth averaged 14.5 minutes per game, during that stretch he averaged 5.8 points per game and made a respectable 48.5% of his shots from downtown.

Daniel Ochefu received the Most Improved Player Award. The junior center became a versatile threat this season, becoming a tough presence inside on offense and defense. Ochefu had 9.2 points per game, 8.5 rebounds per game, and 1.4 blocks per game.
