Caroline Coyer and Emily Leer Headline Big 5 Women’s Basketball Awards

The Big 5 announced its award winners and honorees for women’s basketball earlier this afternoon.

Caroline Coyer was named Big 5 Player of the Year. Coyer is the leading scorer for the Wildcats, who are continuing their postseason push in the WNIT. She averaged 13.4 points per game, 5.3 rebounds per game, and 4.7 assists per game. Coyer was named First Team All-Big 5 with teammate Emily Leer.

Leer was the second highest scorer for Villanova, averaging 12.3 points per game. She also shot 50.4% overall and 40.9% from beyond the arc. Leer was also named Big 5 Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

The women’s team are co-champions of the Big 5 with the Penn Quakers and St. Joseph’s Hawks. They will resume WNIT action on Thursday, March 26 with a game against St. John’s at 7 p.m. The winner will move onto the quarterfinals for a game against the winner of Duquesne-West Virginia.
