Midterms’ week is quickly approaching, but there are plenty of Villanova sporting events going on to watch during your study breaks.

Holy Trifecta:

The men’s soccer team will play three games this coming week. The three games in six days streak is bookended by road games against Big 5 opponent, La Salle, on Wednesday and out of conference foe, Maryland, on Monday. Sandwiched in between the road trips is a Saturday home game against Big East rival, Marquette. Villanova enters their matchup with La Salle with four wins and three losses on the year. In their last game, the Wildcats lost their Big East opener against Butler 3-0. The loss for Villanova was their third in four games. It doesn’t get any easier for Villanova, as their upcoming opponents all have respectable records on the year. La Salle is 4-4-1 on the year, however they have yet to drop points at home. Marquette currently sits at 3-3-2, but is just 1-1-2 on the road and have tied their only Big East game. Lastly, Maryland holds a 4-2-3 record, with a win and a loss being attributed to games against Big East opposition. This should be a very telling week for the soccer team to see how they hold up against quality conference and out of conference competition.

Digital Matchup:

The women’s soccer team continues its season with a matchup against Georgetown this Thursday at home. After finally getting their first win of the season against Denver, the team has lost two in a row, both to the score of 3-0. In one of those games, Villanova opened their Big East schedule against Butler where they suffered the same fate as the men’s team. Georgetown enters this game with a 6-4-0 record, mainly due to their impressive play away from D.C. where they have won four and lost one. If you are interested in watching Villanova try to pull off the upset, you can watch it on the Big East Digital Network. Coverage will begin at 4:00 PM.

Hiatus Over:

Both the men’s and women’s cross country team are participating in events this coming weekend after a long hiatus. The women will participate in Princeton Interregional Meet. They are coming off a strong performance in the Main Line Invitational, where they placed first for their first overall team win of the year. The women’s team will strive to repeat last year’s performance in Princeton as they finished first in that event as well.

The men’s squad will be facing a large field in the Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, PA. The event had 43 participating teams last year, where Villanova finished 13th. The men look to build off a decent  fourth place effort  at the Main Line Invitational.

Bounce Back:

Women’s volleyball has had an impressive run to start the season, amassing eleven wins while losing just four matches so far this season. However, Villanova’s eight game win streak came to an end with a road loss to Creighton this past weekend. The team will look to start a new streak this week and will have plenty of opportunities to do so. The Wildcats have three games this week, all Big East matchups, where they will face Marquette and DePaul back to back (Friday and Saturday) at home, and St. John’s on the road, a week from today.

Offensive Explosion:

After having lost four in a row, the field hockey team has responded well by pulling off two dominating wins this past week by a combined score of 10-1. The offense has finally taken off for the Wildcats, as they struggled to score goals all year, having scored more than three goals just once. The two wins improve the team’s record to 3-6. Villanova will look to extend their win streak with conference matchups against UConn on the road and Providence at home. The team will also have an out of conference game against St. Francis at home.

On top of the recent successes on the field, the field hockey team has accumulated some honors over the past week. Senior forward Kayla Kenney was named to the Big East Field Hockey Honor Roll, and senior defender Carolynn Clark was voted as the Student Athlete of the Week.
