As Villanova University gears up for finals, the men’s and women’s basketball teams are gearing up for their games on Sunday. It’s going to be a basketball-only week:
Big Five Bounce Back?:
After Monday night’s disaster in paradise, the men’s basketball team returns home from their trip to Hawaii for a Sunday game against La Salle. The Explorers are coming off of back-to-back losses, most recently giving Drexel its first win of the season. La Salle is led by junior guard Jordan Price. Price is the second-highest scorer in the nation, averaging 25.9 points per game. He has built upon a great sophomore season and has the numbers to show for it. He’s seeing an increase in almost every statistical category. As for the Wildcats, it should be interesting to see if they continue to rely on three-pointers, or if they will be switching up their game plan. Regardless, they will be the favorites heading in.
Searching On the Road:
The women’s basketball team currently sits at 5-3. They have played two games on the road and have lost both times. Their search for their first road win continues and they will have a chance to get one this weekend. Villanova is heading down to D.C. to play George Washington. The Colonials are fresh off of a 68-62 win over Memphis. Jonquel Jones is off to an amazing start to the season for George Washington. After a junior year filled with accolades including Atlantic 10 Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference Honors, she is on pace to repeat. Jones averages 17.7 points per game and 15.9 rebounds per game. She owns a seven-game double-double streak heading into Sunday. She will not be making it easy for the Wildcats.
