Headlining the newest AP Top 25 poll is Villanova, who jumped a tremendous five spots up to #6 in the country after wins against Seton Hall and at Butler. This is the highest Villanova has ranked all season.
The #6 slot is tied for the highest rank of a Big East team this season and puts the Wildcats ahead of all other Big East teams. I find the jump over Xavier to be particularly satisfying on the matter of justice.
Kansas and Oklahoma held the #1 and #2 positions, respectively, after their showdown in Lawrence that can only be called an instant classic. After the teams battled relentlessly for three overtimes, pollsters felt the Sooners’ loss was not enough to drop them even one spot. Both teams will play #11 West Virginia this week though.
Xavier also jumped, landing at #7, while Providence fell to #12 after losing to Marquette and Butler fell to #23 after their home loss to Villanova.
