Head coach-in-waiting Mark Ferrante has to be smiling.
Villanova has received a verbal commitment from Kyle McCloskey, who becomes the first Class of 2017 commit.
Per HERO Sports’ Brian McLaughlin, McCloskey gave his verbal on Tuesday. He will be a part of the first recruiting class to arrive at Villanova to start the post-Andy Talley era.
McCloskey, a 6-4, 205 pound quarterback from Germantown Academy (Pa.), chose Villanova over offers from FBS schools like Buffalo, Ohio University, Bowling Green, and Toledo. He also had offers from a few Ivies–Harvard, Dartmouth, Penn, and Princeton, as well as a handful of other FCS schools.
He was offered by the Wildcats in late May and after visiting the school on Tuesday, he made it official.
247 sports lists him as a three-star prospect and as the 31st best prospect in the state of Pennsylvania.
He is a lefty pro-style quarterback and is comfortable in the spread offense, working well as a passer out of the shotgun formation at Germantown. McCloskey can also scramble out of danger if needed.
He will add depth at the quarterback position, as redshirt sophomore Zach Bednarczyk should have the starting spot locked down after taking over for an injured John Robertson last season. Villanova also has Adeyemi Da Silva, Jackson Bradley, and Peter Burkly as signal callers.
