Two former Wildcats–and teammates–will be reuniting this summer in the NBA Summer League.
JayVaughn Pinkston and Mouphtaou Yarou will both be suiting up for the C’s.
Pinkston announced that he would be joining the Celtics this summer back in April, but the inclusion of Yarou is an added surprise for Villanova fans.
Since graduating in 2013, Yarou has spent the last few years playing in Europe. Most recently he was in France, playing for Le Mans. The 6-10, 255 pound center averaged 10.5 points per game and 9.0 rebounds per game in a season that saw Le Mans take home the French Cup.
Meanwhile, Pinkston has stayed within the states. He had a brief stint with the Brooklyn Nets summer team last year, but he faced a setback with a torn left ACL on the team’s first day of practice.
Both Pinkston and Yarou were teammates at Villanova under Jay Wright from 2011-2013.
Pinkston finished his career with 1,590 points. He earned All-Big East third team honors his sophomore year and second team honors in his junior year. He aided the Wildcats to a Big East Conference championship in his final season.
As for Yarou, he became a fixture in the starting lineup during his sophomore year. He scored 1,068 points and grabbed 836 rebounds over his four-year career on the Main Line. He provided a strong interior presence but could also stretch the floor with a mid-range jumper that got better with each passing season.
Yarou and Pinkston will be joining recent Villanova graduates Ryan Arcidiacono and Daniel Ochefu in summer league action. Arcidiacono and Ochefu were picked up as free agents after the 2016 NBA Draft, with Arcidiacono going to the San Antonio Spurs and Ochefu to the Washington Wizards.
Also featured on this summer’s Celtics roster is Providence’s Ben Bentil, who was picked in the second round of this year’s draft.
The Celtics will play three games in the Utah Summer League from July 4-7. They will then participate in the Vegas Summer League where they will play five games.
